ABSTRACT

The present article discusses the specificity of film titles translation and the problems which may arise in connection with them, such as the presence of culturally specific elements, etc. Some general comments on translator’s profession and qualities are given, too. Certain requirements have to be observed so that a translation of a film title is considered successful. Firstly, a translation must preserve the attractiveness of the original; secondly, it must correspond to the content of the film, and thirdly, it must be accepted by the audience. The article also presents a classification and analysis of the ways of translation of film titles from English into Bulgarian.
